Blessed and Broken Down

We were 90 minutes from the hotel.
We had been driving for 7 hours.
It had bee a great day of National Parks, singing in the car, and truck stop snacks.
Then our trusty Hyundai Santa Fe broke down.
She had just had enough.
She obviously knew we were in New Mexico, her names sake and wanted to stay a bit longer.
We got out, called AAA, got Kate the fish, and played Go Fish on the side of the access road.
Then the sun began to set and the light was perfect so I started snapping…
Most people would have been focused on mechanics and hotels…
But then they would have missed this…

I broke down in New Mexico too! Except in the middle of the desert on a two lane road on at Saturday night (11pmish) in February – got to -10 before AAA came (they first went the wrong direction due to faulty directions). But truck stop snacks don’t make a good enough story – something has to go wrong!

Your family is beautiful! Your kids are going to grow up and have so much wisdom beyond their age because of how you parent them and teach them about life. Enjoy every second :o )

Yep, even when things don’t go exactly as we planned, there may still be some blessings in store. Great pics!

God’s plan is always greater than ours. I am sure you did not set up the ‘Sante Fe’ to break down on that exact stretch of highway, but He did. For the reason displayed in your photos… beauty. For the time spent with your family, on that road, waiting for rescue to come and the story that you will remember forever and share with others… witness. And for being you and doing your thing, stranded in an unfamiliar place with uncertain results you chose an attitude of grace and praise resembling the way I feel Christ would have responded. Thanks for inspiring us with your life… blessings!

My son said the other day, “I love it when we break down.” Well, I might disagree. But it can be fun too, especially for a kid.

Carlos, My family met you and your family at Myrtle Beach at the Marriot two summers ago. God introduced us because of my Beloved Ragamuffin bag! I continue to lift you and your family up in prayer! God is doing a mighty work through you and I love the way He has given you eyes to see the really important things in this world!!! Thanks!

Wow…the highway sign brings back memories. I lived in Gallup, NM for four years back in the 90s. I found Jesus in Gallup, NM and was baptized in a stone chapel there. I can still remember how cold the water was because they only had a hose to fill the baptismal pool.

Cool pics, Los. Hope the car’s not an expensive fix.

I know you are just another person on this crazy journey called life, but your words at #echo10 and your blogs are an inspiration to be a better media director to bring people closer to God but also a personal inspiration to take those special times with your wife and kids…

We broke down on our vacation this summer-last week, made it 220 miles from home and stayed in Richmond Hills, GA for 36 hours. We too took advantage of our location under an overpass for a photoshoot!

  31. Kelli 18 August 2010 at 4:02 pm #
