Can Someone Please Tell Me What The Crap This Is?

spider

Click that pic so you can see them fangs…

“CAAAAAAARLOSSSSSS!!!!!!!”, the wife screamed.
So out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from my XBox to see what was the matter…

Then I saw this on the post next to the front gate…
Holy crap.
First…Can somebody PLEASE tell me what kind of spider that is?
Second… What is the one thing that makes your skin crawl?
Spiders and roaches for me…
You?
Los

That is a hugmongous spider! I have no idea what it is… other then really ugly.

Roaches make my skin crawl…spiders not so much.

  2. Conor Scholes 27 September 2010 at 7:16 pm #

That looks like your garden variety orb spider…nothing to worry about.

  3. Albert 27 September 2010 at 7:16 pm #

Possibly a colorful wolf spider. (http://www.termite.com/spider-identification.html). Poisonous or not, I don’t think Adam ran into that back in the day…

Spiders are up in making me want to crawl under my skin and cry.

Who got close enough to write “Big Spider”?? And didn’t kill it until there were several pictures taken?! HA!

  7. Jason 27 September 2010 at 7:46 pm #

According to the sign it is a ‘Big Spider’ – how come we always take our eyes off of the signs and focus on the problem?

    It’s Charlotte.
You will forgive him/her for being a spider when you see one of their beautiful webs covered in dew. (that is what I always tell myself anyway)

What is wrong with you people! bleck! wahhhhh my skin is so crawling right now – that is worse than the African Wall spider. Bleck

  19. Brook 27 September 2010 at 11:09 pm #

Not sure what it kind it is, other than nasty looking!

As for what makes my skin crawl, it’d have to be stepping on an ant hill. At that moment I’m willing to just amputate my leg to keep them from spreading upward. I can do bugs, cockroaches, spiders, etc (you have to living in Thailand), but ants on my skin and I’m about done for…

  20. Sarah 27 September 2010 at 11:18 pm #

Dude, this is nothing. You should come down to south GA where banana spiders, which can get as big as an average adult’s hand, abound in the summertime. We also have all kinds of other giant-sized creepy-crawlies!

btw, I agree that this is probably an orb weaver spider, at least according to the info on this site: http://www.ehow.com/how_4546517_identify-georgia-spiders.html

And though I’m trying to sound tough, I admit that if a spider crawls on me I get a little freaked out.

    • Annie Bakaleinikoff 28 September 2010 at 7:11 pm #

Sarah, I have seen one of those banana spiders. And I have never, ever been the same.

  21. Kelsey 28 September 2010 at 2:26 am #

    Slugs.
And stepping on them barefoot is the worst.

  22. Trae 28 September 2010 at 3:13 am #

For me it’s rats. Not the small, cute kind. But big, momma bear, HOLY-CRAP-THOSE-ARE-HUGE rats. Reason I say that is at my previous apartment, we had a bit of a problem with them. A neighbor though had a tiny cat that stayed outside and he didn’t just kill them, he disemboweled them. The cat (who I named Leonidas) once left that as a present at my doorstep, which yes, I almost stepped on barefoot (and for the record – I took a pic once of one of the rats he killed – easily over a foot long).

  23. Toby 28 September 2010 at 3:13 am #

I believe that is the Black Spider of Death…..although I have no evidence :D ….looks like it might fit that title though.

Bugs don’t bug me much (yes, I’m a comedian)….but RATS…now dem monsters are disgusting!

  24. Molly 28 September 2010 at 7:41 am #

If I had to pick between a clown and a spider as the biggest ick creepout factor,,,,the clown would win hands down at least spiders have some redeeming value, they eat other creepy crawlies…clowns…guards of the gates of hell.

    • Anita 28 September 2010 at 1:00 pm #

“clowns…guards of the gates of hell”

      amen sister!

  25. rodge 28 September 2010 at 7:58 am #

it looks pretty smallish, Australia’s full of much bigger critters. It’s very common to see huntsmans in and around a suburban house. A huntsman can get to be as big as a CD and move pretty quickly. They’re are pretty harmless though, unlike our funnelwebs…

  26. HeidiH 28 September 2010 at 8:39 am #

We had an orbweaver just like that one that took up residence at our back patio door. Reaaly cool to watch it building it’s web. We even helped him out a bit by turning on the porch light to draw the bugs in. :)

  27. Art 28 September 2010 at 11:03 am #

Spiders do it for me too. Moved out into the country this year and have seen some of the biggest, nastiest ones ever.

  28. MJT 28 September 2010 at 12:27 pm #

    SNAKES

  29. Andrew holybee 28 September 2010 at 1:20 pm #

Orb weaver they make amazing webs

  30. Annie Bakaleinikoff 28 September 2010 at 7:13 pm #

It is a horrifyingly ugly creature. Cannot have been made by God.

In college, I had a textbook with a full-page, full-color pic of a spider on one page.

I stapled it to the page in front, so that I would never open my book accidentally to that page. They didn’t take well to screaming in class in those days.

  31. Tamara 28 September 2010 at 7:35 pm #

    Ew… Scary spider.

Though, what makes my skin crawl is the sound of metal scraping on metal. I feel physically sick when I hear it. Weird, huh?

  32. Carole Turner 28 September 2010 at 7:44 pm #

Skinks, which is a lizard that looks and acts way to much like a snake and got into our house when I was growing up, way to many times. I hate them really really bad! Maggots, pin worms, snakes.

  33. Dawn 28 September 2010 at 7:46 pm #

It’s definitely your run of the mill garden spider. We have those all over here in Kansas! I have pictures from our garden with them in their webs eating not so run of the mill (LARGE) grasshoppers. My daughter and I LOVE to watch them spin their webs. They are large enough that you can see the silk come out of them and then watch as they place it in the exact right spot with their legs. Not poisonous and they can’t hurt you. They sure do look scary though!

And HA HA HA HA to Moe’s comment!

  34. Gabriel J 30 September 2010 at 2:01 pm #

that is a garden variety orb weaver, very intimidating, but as with most spiders, it is more afraid of you than you are of him/her. ( that one looks like a female.) btw I’ve been following and sharing your blog for 6 months now, keep it up!
