Dominican Dance Off

Posted on 25. Feb, 2011 by loswhit in Culture

This was in the DR a few days ago.
Kids hear a beat and they dance.
Then they grow up.

When you grew up…
Did you lose the beat and stop dancing or do you love the beat and are the first one on the dance floor?

    I never had the beat.

That was, until several years ago when some friends helped me overcome my inhibitions about dancing.

Now I feel the beat. All the time.

But sometimes I’m still too shy to dance.

First one on the dance floor. The beat may be off sometimes, but I gotta move.

My friend @helenatrandom does the supermarket salsa. She’s still got it!

I would never go on the dance floor except when i was in a shall we say “jolly” state, about three years ago I went and took ballroom dance lessons and learned how to dance, now I hit the floor right off the bat, all you he men out there, if you dont know how , go take lessons, your woman will love you for it!!

I’m the first one on the dance floor. My Mom and I dance ALL the time, leave us at a wedding and we won’t eat! I get really upset when people at my church say dancing isn’t of God. It annoys me.

First one one the floor! Except now, my 16 year old son gets embarrassed and says I can’t dance. It’s the mom thing ;)

I stopped dancing when I realized there were hidden cameras in the elevators — CARLOS — How could you stop the video at just 15 seconds?!? I was just about to get my groove on!

I was not allowed to dance as a kid, and I certainly don’t have the beat now.

I love to groove. I jam in the car, in the kitchen, or anywhere I’m feeling it. Dancing is one of the great equalizers bc there are so few of us that are really good at it.

And let’s be honest, all you “non dancers” still have a little moonwalk, electric slide, or running man hidden somewhere deep in your souls.

No sir. I have something akin to frozen jello being trampled by a psychotic rhino. Trust me when I say that dance floors worldwide are all relieved that I am not prancing upon them! I have other talents but dancin’ ain’t one of ‘em! :-)

Funny story. I was asked to translate for Compassion last week (I’m a dominican volunteer), I couldn’t make it but i just realized who i would’ve been translating for. ;D

We have a son from Ethiopia, when he first came here two years ago, he would dance any time, now, he doesn’t. Kids here just aren’t as free. It’s sad.

I used to complain that I was born with two left feet until i realized that I actually have seven left feet…and that made my head hurt!

Got no beat but blessed with seven left feet! I leave the dancing to others…lol…

I have always been the first one on and the last one off the dance floor. I have always had to fight against the whole “Christians shouldn’t dance” stereotype. I just can’t help it — I was MADE to dance!!
