I have soooo much crap to do.
I have a record to make. I have writing sessions to fulfill. I have meetings to attend. I have a house to sell.
I could go on for hours.
But I came to the realization that I will never be done.
And if I kick it next week, or find out I have 3 weeks left before I kick it, am I going to be pissed I missed that one session?
No.
I am going to be glad I dropped everything and drove 9 hours in a car full of strangers who soon became friends to Joplin, MO to help rebuild this city.
So if you are sitting on your @$$ (That is the Christian spelling of ass) trying to make the American dream happen for you or your family, I have a news flash.
It is a hoax.
The dream you can live requires you stopping trying to build it and instead begin to live it.
It’s better that way.

I’ve been putting off cancelling my vacation to Montana in order to be able to go to Joplin. You just settled it. Getting off my “@$$” and doing what’s needed.

Joplin is a huge example of something that occurs everyday: God gives each of us unique ways to impact others’ lives. When those chances come, I’ve learned not to hesitate or over-think and just do, because they’ve been presented for a purpose.

It’s amazing what can happen when we get off our @$$. Thank you for giving tangible love to people who have lost everything. Totally gives perspective to my small problems.

My wife and I left Joplin after living in our apartment for 4 years. We came to Germany for missions work. We have tons of friends who are associated with Joplin because of Ozark Christian College.
When we heard the news we realized our old place was in the line of the tornado and so was my best friend. I freaked out but soon found out that he, his pregnant wife and daughter packed up the day before and moved to Indiana to start a new ministry! Great time to move. What’s ironic is he is beginning a ministry with a disaster relief organization.
Oh, and needles to say my old apartment was completely destroyed.
Thanks a ton for going to help my neighbors! I was feeling extremely guilty for not being their for them last week.

I needed to hear this.
As a mother of six very little ones, I’m not able to just get up and go to Joplin (or anywhere else, really). But I’m able to get up and do something. Even if it’s just for the extra neighborhood kids that show up at my house every single day because it’s the only place they feel loved.
I’m ashamed to say I’ve been hiding from them lately.
I needed to hear this.

I’m working on my MA (Biblical Counseling), homeschooling four kids, managing my home, serving my husband, living out Titus 2:4-5, co-developing a local non-profit, and getting published.
J and I are stepping into full-time ministry. A local non-profit. A Bible study framework. It reaches out. It lifts up. It encourages. It advances the Gospel.
Carlos, great post. I agree, we can’t look back on our lives with regret. We will never regret doing things on behalf of others. We put up http://www.mynextstepis.org to help people walk into that. Love the example you are setting.

First off, thank you for dropping everything and going to Joplin. I have a lot of close friends there (thankfully all are safe). But it’s been killing me that I’m not in a position to go and help them. I know you are a busy man, but it spoke mountains to me that you are going and doing even with everything going on in your own life. It’s a lesson I’ve sadly forgotten.
I was asked to come spend a few hours with some foster kids on Friday and love on them through making art (what I feel called to do for a living). I was hesitant because it meant canceling other normal activities. Thanks for kicking my @$$ and reminding me what’s really important!!!

I’ve started a nonprofit to help victims of natural diasters. After the Alabama tornadoes, I was moved to move. So came http://www.couponsofcompassion.org
All people have to do is send in their unused coupons and we’ll use them to buy goods for those affected at little to no cost. Forgive me for this little commercial, but this is my way of getting off of mine and finding a simple way to help others do the same. Not everyone may have the ability to go to MO to help their physically. Certainly, everyone can put coupons in the mail.

Thank you for posting this. I live a couple of hours northeast of Joplin and they are still in great need of our help. I postponed what I had planned last week, to help organize and collect supplies for the people there. I hear that their greatest need now is people to volunteer. It’s a lot easier to give than to go. I’m planning a trip there soon. If you can’t give or go, pray.
