Screw The Plastic Smile

Posted on 25. Jul, 2011 by loswhit in Authenticity, fatherhood

Sometimes you just don’t feel like being in the picture.
And when this feeling comes over you…
Please feel free to let the world know.
Because if there is one thing I have learned from my kids…
It is that living authentically, no matter the cost, no matter the looks you receive from those standing by judging you, is way better than a plastic smile.
It’s better that way.

I’ve found myself learning that it’s ok to drop the plastic smile lately. It’ s not an easy thing to learn, but it’s definitely a freeing thing.

    AMEN!!!!

My Mom was queen of the plastic smiles. I am a photographer and would prefer to take a picture of a REAL emotion not matter what it is than to get the stupid plastic smile!

    Thank you!!!

Add my mom to that list too. Also she would kick my and my brothers butts to smile in family photos. I enjoy taking pictures of my kids smiling, crying, pissed, whatever mood they are in.

Trying to fake it really hurts you more than the person/people your faking for.

70% of my childhood was this. I didn’t smile unless I wanted to.

Mine was a childhood of “You better smile and you better like it.” So blessed knowing these beauties won’t be living in such bondage. God bless ya, Los!! {& Miss Heather!!} ;)

I found it interesting that the we get the word “hypocrite” from a Greek word that means “actor or stage player.” Nobody likes to think of themselves as a hypocrite, but if we’ve ever put on a mask to save face then we’ve practiced some degree of hypocrisy. Some people practice and some people perform regularly. In either case, though, I believe Jesus wants us to get rid of the masks.

    Thanks for the post!
