The Three Muscles of Creativity

Posted on 01. Sep, 2011 by loswhit in Creativity

I have three muscles, without which I couldn’t do my work. The first is curiosity. (You can call it inquisitiveness, you can call it questioning.) The second muscle [is] the muscle of appreciation. It’s not questioning so much as it is noticing… how joyful things can be, how colorful things can be, what already exists as an inspiration. The muscle of curiosity and the muscle of appreciation enable the muscle of imagination.

This is the best use of 6 minutes you can use today. Trust me.
So many times we reserve our learning by staring at the young and hip…
Then we might miss out on gems like that.
You’re Welcome.

“What few people realize is that it’s only through the parts that the whole gets delivered.” Love this!

Love the line: “I am obsessively interested in everything.” Great video. Thanks.

“If yo walk around with a head full of preoccupation, you won’t notice anything.” Love that line.

    Food for my creative soul.

There is something powerful about seeing creativity through someone else’s eyes. It is like seeing a whole new perspective

I love that the video was done to represent exactly what he was talking about. Great insightful thoughts shared in a visually engaging and moving production.

I love his ideas on helping clients with self expression rather than telling them what is popular design.

This video really reminds you about the wonder of God and his creation. Often we get so busy and take it all for granted. This is a wonderful reminder to slow down and appreciate what God has done.

    phenomenal.
among his great insights, I really appreciated:

“What already exists is an inspiration, what you see – how people choose to express themselves -…

[Help people to] define their own self expression, not impose our view of what is good design.”

“don’t just persuade or make people think, you move them.”

“only through the parts does the whole get delivered”

I saved this in reader to watch when I had the time to really focus on it. Great stuff, thanks so much for sharing it.

I couldn’t get over the rainbow and how he choose orange, all the way down to this Le Creuset pot of boiling water. (and then I wondered, does he have a Le Creuset in every color…wooah, that’s some bucks)

SO, maybe, I should watch it again and listen to him this time LOL.

That was incredible. I liked his first point about how some creatives are pigeoned-holed or put themselves in a box as a graphic designer, architect or whatever. The idea of being holistic and regularly exercising these muscles is beautiful.

Thank you for sharing. You inspire me.
