You’re A Sinner In Need Of Repentance.

“Daddy? Can we pray for my Oma tonight at dwinna?”
Losiah’s Oma is his foster mom. She took care of him from month 1 of his life till month 7 when she so lovingly handed him over to us.
“What do you want to pray for her about buddy?” I asked.
“Dunno. I just wuv her. She took care of me.”
“Let’s do it. Dinner. It’s a date.”
“But daddy… I love you too”
I smiled and walked out.

It took me a second but then realized that at 5 years old, he was being intentional in letting me know that he thanks me for choosing him but also understands he was chosen by someone else too.

I walked into the bedroom and shut the door, sat on the floor and started crying.
A good cry.
A “How the hell did we get so lucky and get this kid cry”

30 seconds later…knock knock knock.
Kid walks in.
“Daddy. Are you crying cause you love me?”
“Yes son. I am. You are perfect.”

“No I’m not. Remember you almost spanked me yesterday?”
“Oh yea. You’re right. You are a sinner in need of repentance.”

Just living my story.

Adoption = living the gospel. We’re all sinners in need of repentance. Thank God we’re all adopted too.

I don’t think we are sinners in need of repentance. Once we believe into Christ, we become saints. This is clear in how Paul addressed his letters to those in the churches and what has been written throughout the NT in general. Yes, we do still sin, but that is because we still have our flesh, not because our nature is that of a sinner. We need to start seeing ourselves for who Christ says we are, saints, and not continue to view ourselves as what we were. If we view ourselves as sinners, it is easy to see ourselves as less than we are (in Christ) and beat ourselves up for not living up to a certain standard.

Repentance now is learning who we are in Christ, shifting our mind to that new perspective, and living as if he is inside of us and we are inside of him and we are to express him.

oh my goodness… y’alls stories about Little Los’ adoption just wreck me. I’m sooo not a kid person – well – I love everyone elses’ kids, just not so sure I want my own. BUT when it comes to adoption… it’s a whole ‘nother story.

thanks for reminding me of the incredible gift of adoption, and fostering… its such a beautiful expression of God’s heart :)
