So, we’ve finally narrowed down a winner for our Project 7 Year of Swag Contest.

We challenged Ragamuffin Readers to use a real or virtual chalkboard to express one of Project 7′s SEVEN causes. (HEAL – SAVE- FEED – QUENCH – HOUSE – TEACH – HOPE)

And, as usual you did not disappoint. We received some AMAZING depictions of these causes. I honestly love seeing how creative you are.

But, alas, there can only be ONE winner.

My Day Yesterday – Tats and Treats

Examination. This is what we talked about in my Creative Coaching group session today.

Examination is a powerful tool in harnessing your creativity.
One of the assignments that I gave all the peeps today was to do a My Day Yesterday video.
No transitions. Only 90 seconds. Hard cuts only. No music bed. Just. Life. In 90 seconds.
They are fun…
You guys know them. I have done 6 of them now.
It is a great way to examine your day and be creative while doing it. And in the long run, I now have some really cool memories of entire days.
Yesterday was an epic day, so I captured it.

I’m always looking for books to keep my creativity fueled.
I also get to keep others creativity fueled.
These four books have been STAPLES in my artillery.
Read them when your creative hustle starts slowing down.

THE COURAGE TO CREATE is a compelling case for art and creativity as the centripetal force, not a mere tangent, of human experience. It is creativity from a therapists point of view and offers a sort of blueprint for kicking our bad creative hits to the curb.

TRUST THE PROCESS What I love about this book is that is is NEVER preachy. Never. He brings the terror and exhilaration of creating to the front.

CRACKING CREATIVITY In this book Michalko researched HUNDREDS of the worlds greatest thinkers…and stole all their mojo. Get it. It’s amazing…

COACHING THE ARTIST WITHIN Exercise Exercise Exercise. This book is full of them. It’s a bit hippie, but it works. I dig through it weekly.

My Wife, My Church, And Their Creativity

I love my wife. I love my church.
They both inspire me to be a Christian and creative that does not live out my faith with weaksauce.
Last week Heather pulled of what I consider her greatest event.
With the help of the amazing staff at Crosspoint.tv, my wife’s vision was implemented into a fantastic evening.
Heather designed the evening and with the help of the crew, cooked all the food, built all of the tables, built all the lighting, framing, and basically took the big room at the Bellevue campus and turned it into amazingness.
This is me showing off how amazing my wife and church are.

Yes. She really is that amazing.

The Three Muscles of Creativity

I have three muscles, without which I couldn’t do my work. The first is curiosity. (You can call it inquisitiveness, you can call it questioning.) The second muscle [is] the muscle of appreciation. It’s not questioning so much as it is noticing… how joyful things can be, how colorful things can be, what already exists as an inspiration. The muscle of curiosity and the muscle of appreciation enable the muscle of imagination.

This is the best use of 6 minutes you can use today. Trust me.
So many times we reserve our learning by staring at the young and hip…
Then we might miss out on gems like that.
